Approved Dosimetry Service

About us

Approved Dosimetry Services for Employee Protection

AMEC has over 20 years experience of providing a personal Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved dosimetry service for both the nuclear and non-nuclear industries, which is highly recommended by our clients who include Alstec, Weir Strachan & Henshaw together with many contracting agencies.

Wearing a personal radiation dosimeter is a legal requirement for classified workers and also provides peace of mind for employees who are involved in working with ionising radiation. Our Approved Dosimetry Service (ADS) covers external whole body and skin dose assessment, coordination and record keeping to ensure any dosage levels are both measured and recorded.

Our service provides an economic solution to dosimetry needs, whilst also maintaining a high quality of service. For a single competitive annual fee, dose meters are issued monthly for routine personal dosimetry and dose record-keeping for registered individuals.

For specific applications such as environmental monitoring or job-specific dose assessments, we supply specific dose meters as appropriate. Where a worker has been designated as a classified person by their employer and is required to work in a controlled area of another employer, we also supply radiation passbooks to those workers. This ensures that compliance with IRR99 is fully met.

Reliable and accurate measurements

To ensure the reliability and accuracy of dosage readings, we provide Panasonic Thermoluminescent Dose meters (TLD) which give an in-depth assessment of whole body deep and skin beta/gamma radiation doses. The TLD uses tried and tested technology which is recognised as one of the safest and trusted methods of measuring dosage levels. The TLD is a 4-element badge; the lithium borate and calcium sulphate elements each have different radiation type and energy discriminating filters, which provide extensive diagnostic capability.
